Hard at work in the record offices, and out of them…

Elspeth writes of her experience of visiting the record offices as part of the project…

Not only I have I met new people who have joined our history research group but also met the ancestors of the Horobins who lived at Whitle – their lives recorded in the rentals, land disputes, baptisms, marriages and burials – I can’t wait to find out more.

One of the members of our history research group was even spotted today in the Devonshire Library, Buxton, hard at work transcribing documents that looked (to me at least) like gobbledy-gook. Luckily she had ways of decoding this strange old script thanks to Dr Simon Harris. What a dedicated hard-working lot they are!

The group are planning more trips to the record offices next week.
